After being named the Mr. Football Player of the Year in high school, Earl Campbell decided to play for the Texas Longhorns in college. While playing for the Longhorns, Campbell was twice voted to the First Team All-America and won multiple national awards, including the Heisman and Chic Hartley Awards in 1987.

Earl Campbell went on to be drafted first overall by the Houston Oilers in the 1978 NFL Draft.
