The Los Angeles Rams selected Roman Gabriel out of NC State in the first round of the 1962 NFL Draft.

While playing for the Rams, Olsen was voted into four Pro Bowls. He also won an MVP Award (1969). As of the end of the 2013 NFL season, Olsen still holds the Rams’ career records for touchdown passes, passes attempted, and wins by a starting quarterback.

Olsen eventually went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles where he won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award (1973).
